About Herdla
Herdla is a small island about 40 km from Bergen. Jens Havskov has collected some interesting facts about Herdla here.
Herdla is also interesting from a geological point of view, and a popular site for field excursions with our students. The following two videos (in Norwegian) were developed for our introductory geology course and explain about the geology at Herdla:

Information
The seminar has a long history and is the main regional forum for scientific and technical exchange for the Nordic earthquake seismology community. The 54th Nordic Seismology Seminar will be held outside Bergen, Norway, 12-14 June 2023.
A technical meeting will be arranged at the Department of Earth Science, UiB, in Bergen on Thursday 15th. You are also invited to arrange other meetings on this day at UiB if required.
Scientific topics
The meeting will cover a broad range of topics related to earthquake seismology and monitoring, such as:
- Seismicity studies
- Seismic imaging and Earth structure
- Seismic hazard and risk
- Seismic monitoring
- Infrastructure and data management

Venue
The seminar will be held at the hotel BiologenHerdla, on the island Herdla about 45 km north of Bergen. This is a new conference hotel in a previous biological research facility, which is fully refurbished and opened in November 2022.

Accommodation and costs
We have booked the whole hotel and Conference Centre, including 35 hotel rooms. If necessary, accommodation might also be found nearby at Herdla ferie og fritid. Since there is limited accommodation in the area it is important to register early. First come, first serve.
At BiologenHerdla prices include room, conference facilities and meals, for June 12-14 this is:
6850,- NOK single room, including two breakfasts, three lunches and two dinners
5760.- NOK pr person in double room, including two breakfasts, three lunches and two dinners
790,- NOK pr. day for single day stay (without accommodation)
695,- NOK for dinner

How to get there …
From Bergen airport you can take light rail, airport bus or taxi to Bergen city centre bus station. From there you can take public bus nr 499.
Alternatively, it is possible to rent a car at Bergen airport.
Excursion
We are planning for an excursion on Tuesday afternoon. More details will come.
The area is very nice for swimming in the (cold) sea, fishing, walks.
